Past President (Dan Minster)
Dan has been in aquatics for over a decade, both as a lifeguard and as an instructor of advanced courses, such as the National Lifeguard Service and first aid. Working all over the Lower Mainland, Dan has had the pleasure of working with lifeguards and lifesavers of various backgrounds and abilities. Thus began his journey of inspiring others to enjoy aquatics, especially newcomers to this industry and to the general public. If you want to get a hold of Dan, you’ll probably have to leave a message on his phone, as he will most likely be in or on the water.
Secretary (Jazmin Flores)
Jazmin is currently a Lifeguard and Swim Instructor in Vancouver as well as a full time microbiology student at Langara. She is a nerd at heart with a passion for the water. During her free time you can find her on the water surfing, swimming, paddleboarding or reading a good comic. She enjoys volunteering her time and never passes up an opportunity to share her passion for aquatics.
Director of Marketing (Serina Nakamura)
Serina discovered her passion for aquatics at a young age and continues to be actively involved in lifeguarding. Serina is currently a swim teacher, and an outdoor lifeguard for the City of Vancouver. She is passionate about athletics, particularly swimming and running.
Director of Membership (Taryn Harrison)
Taryn was first on the Vancouver Lifeguard Association Board from 2006 – 2010 as Director of Volunteers and then Director of Marketing. She temporarily stepped down to pursue her new career in fundraising for the Multiple Sclerosis Society and rejoined the board in 2016. A former Canadian National Swim Team member, Taryn loves the water. You can find her lifeguarding on the beaches of Vancouver or hiking/snowshoeing on the North Shore mountains. A lover of animals, Taryn is currently in the process of adopting a new pup into her family.
Swim Captain (Max Bibby)
Max’s journey with the Vancouver Lifeguard Association started at a very young age, participating in the Beach Alert Junior Lifeguard Camps, At age 15, he was the youngest person to join the Board of Directors.
As well as being on the Board of Directors for the past 3 years, Max is an instructor for the Beach Alert Junior Lifeguard Camp at Kits Beach and the Junior Lifeguard Club at Hillcrest Aquatic Centre. Max currently works for the City of Vancouver Parks and Recreation at the beaches and outdoor pools. If he’s not near the water, you’ll find Max working at Grouse Mountain as a ski racing coach, or on the rugby field. He loves the outdoors and staying active. Max recently graduated from Lord Byng Secondary and was in the Arts Academy as a trumpet player.

Information Technology Consultant (Sterling Hoeree)
Sterling is a programmer, gamer, and tech nerd. He lives with his partner in New Westminster, and works in Vancouver doing “big data” stuff and software development for video games.
He is not a lifeguard but is happy to help out in whatever ways he can!
